Reston Real Estate

Reston was founded in 1964 as the first modern planned community. Approximately 60,000 residents live, work, play and enjoy Reston as their home. The community was planned to make the clustering of housing possible so that open space with fields and trees could serve as large areas of commonly held land. With its proximity to Washington, D.C., Reston is home to major corporations and many high technological firms, as well as the United States Geological Survey and the National Wildlife Federation.

Reston contains four artificial lakes and over 1,300 acres of open space. In order to maintain the community and all of its land the Reston Association was developed. The Reston Association serves the community as an extensive homeowners association. The association helps to make Reston an exceptional place to live, work, play and learn. It maintains and protects the acreage of open space and provides educational and recreational programming, along with other various functions.

Abundant playgrounds, tennis courts, ball fields and 17 swimming pools, makes Reston a great place for children and families to enjoy life. Nature trails and parks are easily reached and utilized daily by members of the community. The schools are part of the Fairfax County system and therefore boast to be some of the region’s best. The Reston Hospital ranks high among the accredited hospitals in the Northern Virginia region.

A well connected bus system and easy access by way of the Dulles Toll Road, which has four exits for Reston, makes the area very accessible. Not to mention the proposed stops along the Metro Rail System that is going to be extended to the Dulles International Airport makes it much easier for commuting to Tyson’s Corner and Washington, D.C.

The Reston Towne Center is one of the town’s main attractions. A four star hotel, numerous restaurants, upscale shopping and a large movie theater make for a great place of fun. Weekly concerts occur during the summer on the pavilion and in the winter it is converted into an ice skating rink. It is a great place for families and people to enjoy life and mingle.

The concept of planned open spaces intermixed with townhouses, apartments and detached homes, with housing available for people at all income levels, makes Reston a going and growing residential community and will continue to attract national and worldwide recognition and awards as it has from the beginning.
