Located in western Fairfax County, Herndon is just minutes from Washington Dulles International Airport. Community Activities: Each year, thousands of people enjoy a wide array of free concerts, special events held on the Town Green, including the Herndon Festival, Summer Concert Series, Friday Night Live, Labor Day Jazz Festival and Folk Festival. The annual Herndon Festival in historic downtown Herndon is a large town-wide event attracting people from the greater Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. Schools: Part of the acclaimed Fairfax County Public School system, Herndon schools boast achievements in academics, sports and service. Recognizing the realities of the global marketplace and the technology industry, Herndon’s schools participate in Fairfax County programs designed to give a competitive edge to students. The Foreign Language Partial Immersion Program is offered in French at the Herndon Elementary and Middle schools. Herndon High’s aggressive program to integrate technology in the classroom makes it stand out among other metropolitan schools with its college-level computer science courses, intensive instruction of a variety of computer applications and its use of technology as a tool for global research. High levels of parental involvement in the classroom and partnerships between the business community contribute greatly to the success of Herndon students.
